The Knicks may not be showing signs of turning things around, but their star Kristaps Porzingis is rising up in the world.
Porzingis will be the cover athlete of the online app My NBA ‘2K18,’ which is a mobile game and a resource for those who also play the console version of NBA ‘2K18’.
The app will be available on Sept. 7.
Porzingis has been the one bright spots of what has been a series of miserable Knicks seasons.
In his first two years in the league, Porzingis has grown into one of the NBA’s best up and coming players. The power forward is averaging 16 points with seven rebounds and two blocks per game so far.
Last year Karl Anthony-Towns was the cover athlete on the app, while Paul George was on it the year before that.
Fortunately for NBA ‘2K18’ they won’t have to switch up the jersey of their My NBA ‘2K18’ cover athlete like they do for the video game.
Kyrie Irving is the cover athlete of the console version and he’s shown wearing a Cavaliers jersey. Irving was traded to the Celtics last week and the game will now make a version where he’s rocking his new Boston uniform.
Jason Argent, senior vice president of basketball operations for 2K, told Game Informer that even though the trade happened so close to the video games’ release on Sept. 19, they’re prepared to make an adjustment in the near future.
“This isn’t an unprecedented event, a cover athlete being traded – but it’s certainly interesting timing with 2K18 being released in less than a month. The good news is that as the most authentic and realistic basketball game on the market, we’re used to being nimble and responding to changes in the NBA,” Argent said. “Fans should be thrilled to know that we will issue a version of 2K18 featuring Kyrie in a Boston Celtics uniform at a later date.”
